John Crain
John Crain, a visionary in the digital art and blockchain space, co-founded SuperRare in April 2018 alongside his brother Charles and cousin Jonathan Perkins. SuperRare, built on the Ethereum blockchain, is a leading DAO and NFT platform focusing on single-edition artworks. It features around 2,400 artists and mints approximately 20–50 NFTs daily. The platform has paid over $160 million directly to artists, establishing itself as a key player in the digital art market.
Crain's journey began with a background in architecture and civil engineering, leading to a career in advertising in New York. His interest in generative art and the structural flaws in the digital art market led him to explore NFTs as a solution. SuperRare, under his guidance, has become a hub for artists, curators, and collectors, collaborating with brands like Gucci. Crain's vision extends to physical spaces, like the pop-up gallery in Manhattan, to educate and engage people about digital art. With the launch of the $RARE token, SuperRare transformed into a community-governed platform, aligning with Crain's belief in DAOs as the future of human coordination and a means to reinvent inequitable structures in the art market.
